Manhattan Roof Garden

This rooftop oasis begins in the kitchen below, where a large skylight washes the space and establishes the initial connection to the roof garden above.  A cylindrical glass-walled elevator rises from the apartment to the cedar-clad bulkhead, where windows deliver daylight down the elevator shaft, igniting the glass cylinder and illuminating the surrounding space.  At the entrance to the roof deck, stepped wood terracing leads up to the shaded and lighted pergola seating area with views of the lush landscaped gardens and the city beyond.  Grassy planters, large and small sculpted shrubbery, tall wispy bamboo and moss-like sedum ground cover create a  verdant expanse.  A hideaway grill under the stone counter makes this a lovely setting for a day or night feast.
